Why natural is so much better for your hair AND your scalp!

When you apply products to your hair and scalp, they get absorbed by your skin and make their way into your body. If we are so concerned about what we are putting on our skin, we should be equally concerned about what we are putting on our scalps…

The natural and organic beauty movement has swept across skincare in the past few years, and now it’s haircare’s time to shine.

With consumer perception, that natural alternatives are not as results driven AND don’t look like the other brands you are showing off on your Instagram…that all changed with the launch of We Are Paradoxx.

In terms of just how far we’re behind when it comes to all-natural ingredients in beauty products, specifically hair, the US Toxic Substances Control Act, which controls the use of chemicals in consumer products, went 40 years without being changed. It was first passed in 1976 and was not overhauled until the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act was proposed in 2013 and later passed in 2016. That’s long enough for thousands of new chemicals and ingredients to run rampant on the market without any regulation or research into how they affect us as humans and the environment. 

To get the same results, it is nearly impossible for haircare (currently!) to be 100% natural, but with all of our products at 97% and over, we are pretty close. The key harmful ingredients to look out for are parabens, formaldehyde, sulfate SLS and SLES, synthetic fragrances, oxybenzone and mineral oils – these are things that MOST shampoos, conditioners and stylers contain! 

Recent studies from the University of California shows that short breaks from shampoos with chemical ingredients can result in a significant drop in levels of people’s hormone-disrupting chemicals.

According to Fast Company, the organic and natural beauty industry is expected to hit a valuation of $13.2 billion by this year. That’s a lot of money to put back into making the simplest changes at even the best-selling organic brands that admittedly need to strive to be even better—like working to be 100% natural for example, or moving away from plastic packaging.
