100 People Who Care – Belfast is a wonderfully simple but impactful way for people to give back to local causes and charities.
The team behind WE ARE PARADOXX wanted to make a difference but couldn’t choose just one cause to support. We wanted to give big but knew our offering wouldn’t make a huge impact alone. And so, the idea to establish 100 People Who Care – Belfast was born.
What is it?
100 People Who Care – Belfast is part of a global alliance of around 850 similar groups located all over the world. The initiative was launched in 2006 by Karen Dunigan who recognised that while we are each strong in our own right, we are even stronger together. It is a tried and tested way of giving local and truly making a difference.
How Does It Work?
The format is so simple. People who want to commit £400 per year to good causes come together at four quarterly meetings during which, three charities are put forward for consideration. At each of these meetings, members donate £100 towards the charity ‘kitty’ for that night. It is not limited at 100 people, so if you’re interested, you’re always welcome!
Either a representative from the charity, or a 100 People Who Care member speaking on their behalf, offers a 10-minute talk on how the money raised would benefit their cause. Then the members in the room vote on which charity should receive the money donated on the night.
Once the vote is completed, the money is handed directly to the winning charity to walk away with on the night. The final donation can be as much as £10,000 if 100 individuals come together; and can actually surpass this amount if the member numbers grow. This can really make an immediate impact on small, local causes.
We plan on holding our first meeting in May 2019 so if you are interested in joining us as a member of 100 People Who Care – Belfast, contact Claire for more information: firstname.lastname@example.org.
